Our Programs

Southside Rides’ dual-purpose business both teaches and mentors students while providing exceptional vehicle repair and maintenance services to consumers. Southside Rides operates in conjunction with Forsyth Technical Community College, the Forsyth County jail, and the 21st District Court of North Carolina to educate its participants in auto body repair and servicing and to provide alternative vocational opportunities for incarcerated citizens.

The primary program cultivates a close relationship with Forsyth Technical Community College, a progressive institution also located in Winston-Salem, NC.  Enrolled students at Forsyth Tech can select “Auto Body Repair” and “Advanced Auto Body Repair” as part of their core curricula.  Students not affiliated with FTCC can also register to take either of the two classes.  The registration fee of $198 can be paid at the FTCC Administration Building – West Campus.

The Auto Body Repair course focuses on minor and major collision repairs, as well as custom paint and wheel installation work.  The Advanced Auto Body Repair class assists students in sharpening their techniques inside the shop.  Each course runs for three consecutive months.  Through effective instruction, Dave Moore, the chief teacher, strives to instill better character-related qualities in all of his students, including anger management, mannerisms, and self-motivation.  Each student is invited to develop both vocationally and personally through the highly respected programs at Southside Rides.

Citizens sanctioned with community service may participate in a Southside Rides program to accumulate required hours, as well as build the skills to create a potential, alternative career after legal proceedings are completed.

Students seeking financial support should contact IMPACT at (336) 769-8793.

The close relationship between Southside Rides and the judges and district attorneys in the 21st district of North Carolina has even developed a program for citizens failing to pay child support.  In this system, those neglecting child support payments may get fees waived for three months so that they can complete the class at Southside Rides and then get hired as independent contractors at the body shop.

Prospective students should have mechanical aptitude, analytical ability, manual dexterity, self-pride, teamwork abilities, patience, positive attitude, and desire to succeed.

Southside Rides/Dave Moore also offers classes at the Forsyth County jail to incarcerated citizens who show a willingness to learn in a controlled environment.  Inmates can contact the programs coordinator at the jail to become enrolled in the class which meets in a special room at the jail facility on Monday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
